Create28~Never Blogged + Link-up

Hello, friends!  Was it a lovely weekend for you? Did you do anything special for Valentine’s Day? Hopefully it was a sweet time with something chocolate. Chocolate makes everything better. Would you agree?

For today’s look the prompt is to create a look with pieces that haven’t been featured on the blog before. Do you have some pieces in your closet that you haven’t worn before? What about pieces that you’ve worn but not really remixed? Well, this is the prompt to try to create those looks.

The look I’m sharing is one that I have not shown here before. I have worn similar pieces but not these exact ones for today’s look. But I do have a similar look from last year’s Create28. Last year’s prompt was to style a skirt and you can read it here featuring the different ways I styled this pencil skirt.

How did last year’s pieces fare in the purge? All of the pieces featured in the looks above are currently hanging in my closet. I’m still a little on the fence about that vest. Do you want to know the skinny on it? It was a knockoff which I purchased for about $30. It is not the typical nylon like most vests on the market. It is actually made of mixed cotton and polyester. For the most part I like the vest but it can look an odd color in photography and the collar doesn’t lie down. It is also a little bulky. I haven’t worn it this season yet, so I’m not sure if it’s closet worthy for the future.

This year’s look is similar but it actually features the famous everywhere J. Crew Factory vest. Truth be told this vest is worth the price (but I did purchase it at 50% off). These pieces have not been featured before although I have worn black jeans before but they weren’t these. I purchased these last fall at f21. They are a little cross between skinnies and jeggings and have become my favorite black jeans. They have a little stretch and are super comfy. The flannel was purchased in the fall as well. It’s a boyfriend style and I’m really fond of it. All pieces here are keepers!

This is a simple Saturday look for me. It is exactly what I wore this past Saturday. As the temperatures warmed up a little during the day I did lose the vest. I’ll also be able to wear this look to work. Last year’s look was one I could wear to work then when my office was more inclined for business wear but now it’s casual all the way. This has helped me to define my style and remix my wardrobe better, which makes me grateful to be a place where my casual style fits most aspects of my life.

black + buffalo

buffalo plaidOne last observation on making investments in clothing items. I am learning what stores have the pieces I love. Those stores have a little better quality and fit. Yes, the upfront cost is a little more but how I look and feel is worth paying a little more. I would rather have less {better quality} than more {poor quality} clothing. The knockoff vest is only one piece that continues to remind me of that lesson. Hope it helps you as well!

And since it’s Monday, it’s time for our link-up. Thanks to everyone who joined in last week. Whitney, Casey and I enjoyed reading your posts and searching for our favorite looks. Can’t wait to see what you lovely ladies link up this week.

Each week we choose a favorite…check out Casey & Whitney’s blogs to see if it’s you! My favorite last week was a post by Rachel from Simple Rachel Nicole . She styled a simple look with a gingham blouse and jeans. Super casual and easy to wear, right? And she looks fabulous in it. Simple can be so good but she takes it up a notch and adds her little sweet one in the post with her. Perfection! I hope you’ll stop by and read her post here.

Don’t forget to add your Create28 look to Instagram and use the hashtag #create28winterlooks. We’ve seen some awesome looks so far.

Tomorrow Emily from Darling Dearest will be up with her cozy cardigan look. Please stop by and she what she shares with us.

Good Monday Morning Gorgeous!! i LOVE the black and red on you. So chic and stylish and great pattern mix!! Hope this day is grand for ya!!

    • Thank you, sweet one! It’s a me style for sure. Enjoy your week as well.

  • I totally agree. There are some things you can get by skimping on and some that are not worth it. If I’m going to save lots $$ but the item is underutilized then what am I really saving. Price per wear always wins in the end. I really wish I had purchased the J. Crew Factory herringbone back when they had this nice one. I purchased one that is very nice but it does have a wonky collar which has really prevented me from wearing unless I’m also layering a scarf. Have a super week!

    • We are totally in agreement on quality and price, my dear! Thanks for stopping by and hope your week is lovely!

  • Very nice looks all around! I really like the plaid shirt and pencil skirt combination and know it is one I would totally wear (and have). Glad you were able to purchase the J. Crew herringbone, as it really is a nice vest and goes so well with everything.

  • So many great ways to wear plaid!

  • I have a knockoff herringbone vest as well and never even noticed that the collar doesn’t fold over. I can see why would would want to get rid of that one if your have the J Crew one. I also wore an outfit almost exactly like this the other day :)

    • Yep, I learned a good lesson on that one. Great minds think alike I guess!

  • Darcy
