Summer Style Me Challenge - the finale!

The Summer Style Me Challenge wrapped up on Sunday. The 21 days of being styled by Allison at Get Your Pretty On flew by so quickly that I still can’t believe it’s over. As with any challenge, I always learn so much. For example, when Allison released the shopping list I discovered I really had everything I needed for the challenge. I knew I would have to make some adjustments because I would dress for work not for casual summer. About half way through the challenge I realized the importance of a denim vest and various print tops. Although I have several tops with polka dots and stripes, what my wardrobe is missing would be colorful pattern tops {and/or bottoms}. I just did not understand their versatility but now I do and that is so helpful in building a smaller remixable wardrobe instead of many, many items that can only be paired with one or two pieces. And I made a denim vest by cutting the sleeves off of one of my denim jackets.
Half way through 2014, I am beginning to really learn some important tips for styling a solid wardrobe as well as building seasonal capsules. I am so excited about how this challenges help so much to learn these things.
Now, to the real stuff. I wasn’t really cooking with gas the final days of the challenge. Because I lacked some vital pieces I ran out of options and found myself frustrated {with myself}. I also continue to struggle with getting good selfies. Our house does not have fantastic lighting and I leave for work early in the morning when the sun isn’t at the best angle to get light through the windows. Hubby was going to make some changes in the lighting department but other things have had more priority. Evening photos are great because we can go outside and then he’s the photographer. But…it’s a work in progress. Thank you for your patience friends. I really appreciate your understanding!
Here’s the reveal:

Ummm….yes, last week was a little bit of an epic fail…life happens. The second photo is my hubby and I on the 4th. We got up that morning and did a run up to our town square. Grabbed some breakfast, watched the parade and walked home. That was an epic success in the exercise realm.
On another note…
I highly suggest you check out the bloggers below. Not only do they have awesome blogs, write fantastic posts but they are quite fashionable. Check ‘em out…you’ll love what they wore.

  • I love that striped t-shirt! You just can't go wrong with a striped tee (I may be wearing one as I type this). And I feel your pain on the tricky photo situation. Other bloggers seem to ALWAYS have gorgeous photos and I just don't know how they do it!
    • That's funny Whitney! :) Gotta love stripes. They are one of my favorites and may or may not be composing a post about it for next week. {Or might have done it already}! :)
  • I can't believe the challenge is over already! I love that you made a denim vest out of an old jacket - great idea. I know what you mean about lighting/selfies - mine are always a work in progress. I'm SO glad that I've gotten to know you through this challenge :)
    • Agreed, Lana - so glad we have gotten to know one another. I'm looking forward to the next challenge. Are you planning to participate?
  • it went by so (too) fast. I loved the way you remixed things for work, it was like having work options every day just by you! Loved it! I think you were the 'work wear guru'. Just saying! You also even rock workout clothes ;)
    • Thanks, friend! Changing jobs has changed what I can to work. I like being able to be more dressed up/put together. I was thankful Allison added the work options. Looking forward to the August challenge. p.s. I love work out clothes and wear them all the time after work and on weekends....:)
  • Deena Simair
