The Hundred Dresses…well not quite!

When I was teaching fourth grade, I would start the year reading aloud to my students. The first book I read each year was The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes. The book was about a girl who claimed to have a hundred dresses all lined up in a row. Yet her fellow students did not believe it and taunted her unmercifully. She was poor which made her different and unbelievable in the category of so many dresses. In the end, it was discovered that in fact she did have the hundred dresses, but they were sketches of dresses…they were all lined up in her closet. It’s a great little read for children with a beautiful lesson to glean from it.

So, today I’m linking up with Greater than Rubies with my dresses. No, I definitely do not have a hundred of them but what I have is all lined up in my closet. I thought I would style a few of them to share.

A Few Lovelies - Friday, March 28

This week I feel like I have been behind the eight ball.ALL.WEEK.LONG! Therefore my favorite five is going to be my favorite THREE. :)

Here goes!

1.) As I’m working on developing a capsule wardrobe, I read this wonderful post by Caitlin at Greater than Rubies. You can read it here and I highly recommend it! Very helpful!

2.) Over at Undergraduate Style, Alex had a link up on Tuesday with the Pantone Spring 2014 colors. It was a great link up. It looked like we all shopped our closets and found some of those beautiful colors. Check it out here - Color Me TUESDAY.

3.) Over at Get Your Pretty One, Alison announced a Style Me Challenge - Spring 2014. You can check it out here. It does have a cost of $10.00 but I thought it would be fun. She gives us a shopping list and outfit challenges. The items to wear will be distributed on April 4th and the challenge begins April 14th. I won’t be participating in the shopping part {unless it’s my closet} but I think it will be a fun little challenge.

4.) Here’s something else. A 7×7 Remix with Ma Nouvelle Mode and Walking in Grace and Beauty. It starts April 1st if you are interested. Click on Ma Nouvelle Mode for the deets.

There it is! Top 3+1 {because at the last-minute I remembered one more}.

Capsule Project - Defining My Style

When I made the decision to attempt a Capsule Wardrobe, I also made some goals that I felt needed to be a part of moving forward with my wardrobe. A couple of things that kept cropping up to me that left me confused. I did not have a good understanding of my style or my body type. So I decided to do a googling magic to see what I could find to assist me on my quest. I found a few online quizzes. Here are my favorites:

Define your Style for Dummies - this quiz confirmed that my style was a timeless classic as described below. Does that image look strangely similar to the picture of me on the right in the side bar? I had to laugh at loud!

The timeless classic.

The timeless classic.

Your color palette consists of darker colors like navy, gray, and black. These colors are flattering and slimming and don’t show stains or wear and tear from all your daily activity.

I tried another quiz at sheknows.com which revealed a similar style as stated below.

Your style is chic and modern without being overdone. You follow the latest trends but don’t let them dictate what you wear.

At The Chic Fashionista I found yet again that my style was classic. Their definition of A Classic clothing personality/fashion persona is a sign of grace and tasteful style. Ok, I’ll take that! These are some ladies who fall in this realm as well.

The site also gave some tips and explanations for each fashion style. This was my favorite site to help define my style.

All of those quizzes made it perfectly clear - I am have a classic style. The next step for me was to figure my body type and what style pieces work best on me. I read this post at Wild Ruffle. From that post I followed the link here to take a little measurement quiz which help to determine my body type. These were extremely helpful to me in understanding my body type.

I did just a little more googling! I then found the site Joy of Clothes. This site helped me define a good color palette for me as well as pieces of clothing that fit best to my body structure.

All in all, I feel like I have learned a lot about my style and body type as I move forward on my fashion journey. A journey to shop my closet first and develop a Capsule Wardrobe.

Now I’m off and running to shop my closet for a Spring Capsule. Stay tuned!

Another Trade + Some Link Ups

This month has been so fun. I feel like I have a little piece of my daughter back at home. Her creative trendy style has not been in our home for several years nor has her presence been in our little city or state. Another part of the country is blessed by her creative artsy little self. I have to admit I’m envious of those who get to hang out with her on a regular basis. But children have to grow up and live their lives…

One of the pieces she sent me a little striped top, which by the way, I just love. I had been thinking about the fact that I do not really own anything significant with stripes. I had a little fun coming up with some looks.

I styled the top a few different ways. I had gray polka dot skirt that I was just waiting to pair with stripes. I also have a black and white striped skirt that I wanted to pair with the top as opposite stripes. I added the mustard cardigan to both mixes and was happy with the results.

I am adding some other little link ups along with this post.

Last week I tried but failed to get linked up with my blogger friend, Selah at A Bibliophile’s Style for Thoughtful Third Thursday. I had a plan and wanted to share the outfit below. My inspiration comes from my favorite book which is The Hiding Place {although I’m not reading it now….because now I’m reading RetroChristianity for my theology class}. So this is my take on 40ish style. A floral print dress {too short but oh well}, a cardigan, simple jewelry, wedges and a little bunish hair style going on.

There is another link up I wanted to participate in today. Another blogger friend, Alex at Undergraduate Style is having a link up for Color Me Tuesday. It’s a challenge to incorporate any of the new Spring colors from Pantone. I do have a few of the colors in my closet, but I chose this dazzling blue. It’s a great color!

Today I’m linking up with A Bibliophile’s Style, Undergraduate Style & Style Elixir.

Linking up Thursday - Vodka Infused Lemonade & Perfectly Coutured & Mix and Match Fashion

Get Redressed Remix

Happy Monday! Today I am doing something I have never done. I am wearing a thrifty item. Are you shocked? It is shocking! I know it is shocking!! Thrifting has become very popular now but when I was growing up it really wasn’t an option {at least not that I remember}. So here I am on the threshold of a milestone of sorts.

I am finding it a little comical on several levels {1} that I have not thrifted before I have lived half of a century {2} I’m not supposed to be shopping but I bought this so I could participate in this remix {3} I found this item when I was trying to sell my own clothes which the store refused to buy {4} I returned to the store more than a week later to specifically purchase this piece {5} It was STILL there!

This type of shirt is one that I knew I wanted to add to my wardrobe for putting together a capsule. I know it will be so versatile. I love that it is long-sleeved yet the sleeves can be rolled up. I know it will look great under sweaters or jackets next fall or winter. It is a perfect light weight chambray material and exactly what I was looking for {down the road or at least that’s what I thought}. I think it will become a regular staple in my closet.

The pants I’m not so sure about. I have dyed them and like the color, but the fit just isn’t great. Unfortunately, this is what I am finding in my wardrobe quite often. Things I purchased because they were inexpensive but fit poorly. Now I am face to face with the decision of what I’m going to pay to alter and what I’m going to let go…BIG.bridge.to.cross! Ok, so it’s not like crossing the Rubicon but it’s still a decision and once it’s made there is no going back. Alterations vs. give away and then replace sometime? Go ahead and give me your input.

Today I’m linking up with Greater than Rubies & Not Dead Yet Style & Fizz and Frosting.
