What I Miss About My Teens

Happy Friday and celebrating again with the Lifestyle Sistas! This week our topic is “What I Miss About My Teens.” First of all this topic made me think about Lana who blogs at Two Teens and Their Mama. She has been in the middle of a tragic time with one of her teenage sons and the recent school shooting in her town. I thought of her because of what I miss the most about my teen years revolves around my hometown. I think I might say I “miss” the things on my list but mostly I just appreciate now what I had back then.

1. What I miss the most is my little hometown. It was in the middle of nowhere but it housed a real sense of community. Yes, everyone knew your business but when there were problems everyone rallied together. Lana, I see this happening in your town during this tragedy.

2. I miss my friends from high school. Two of my dearest friends still live in my hometown and their children married each other which means they are even more family than before. Actually, those two friends have volunteered to paint the inside of my parent’s house. Who does that? People from my hometown, that’s who!

3. I miss living near my parents and the home I grew up in from age seven until twenty-one. That place will always be home.

4. I miss the days when I wasn’t an adult with adult responsibilities. Actually, I just appreciate how good I had it growing up and how much my parents did to give me advantages in life.

5. I miss the safety and security (or perceived safety and security) of that little town whose streets rolled up after 9:00 pm. I was never concerned about getting hurt or facing random acts of violence growing up. Of course, it was a different time and the world now is a different place. I miss that place!

My hometown…Eric Church says it so well….

Fall Style Me Challenge - Week 3

We are in the final week of the Fall Style Me Challenge at Get Your Pretty On. Unbelievable! It has flown by so quickly, yet with so much fun, friendship and learning along the way. Sad that we will finish up another challenge in a few days, but there is good news. The good new? Another challenge is starting up. Registration begins on Friday, October 31. I think this is uber exciting because it is a basic wardrobe challenge and geared for women over 40. You can read about it here. Another bonus? Yep! Alison is teaming up with Cyndi Spivey and if you haven’t read here blog, then hop over here and check it out.

Last week was super busy for me and I found myself not home in the evenings, which means that my photos are minimal. My in-home lighting is just not good which is why I typically avoid selfies and like to shoot photos outside. The hubs is such a trooper and snapped a few photos in the house, but honestly I just am chalking last week up to a fail in photos. Week 3 consisted of Days 10-16 and here’s what I have to share.

31 Days ~ 31 Ways Remix - Week 3

It’s Week 3 of 31 Days-31 Ways at Greater than Rubies. There are still so many outfits to create with the pieces I chose from my closet. For real, there are some pieces that I haven’t really touched yet in order to create new outfits. I’m having a blast discovering all I create from so little.

One trick I learned from the Summer Remix came from Valerie at the Style Files. She takes one piece and remixes it to create multiple outfits. You can find a recap of her styles from the Summer Remix here. Using her inspiration, I’m trying to do that little trick again this week. Here my base pieces are a houndstooth skirt and a pair of black/grey pants. There is mostly work wear outfits in this post, so I threw in an extra outfit with boyfriend jeans.

Here’s what I came up with this week from my pieces.

31 Days ~ 31 Ways Remix - Week 2

It’s the link up time for Week 2 of the 31 Days~31Ways at Greater than Rubies. This week I thought I would focus on my favorite pair of grey pants and my favorite shoes {leopard wedges} as a basis for seven different outfits.

When I went back to work earlier this year in a business casual environment, I discovered I had a real clothing issue. Most of my dressy clothes were either a little dated or ill-fitting. My grey dress pants were absolutely too big and the expense of alterations were not justifiable. I actually found this pair of pants on a super clearance for about eight bucks. One of the best purchases I have made…ever! They actually fit and that’s a huge statement for me. Fit has always been a problem in a couple of ways (1) I don’t normally like clothes touching too close to my body (2) I truly have a hard time finding age appropriate clothes that fit. So these were a jewel of a find. Whenever I wear them, I feel put together and confident. For a long time, I haven’t always felt like that about items of clothing. So, grey pants = win/win!

Here’s what I came up with the pieces I chose for the remix.

What about you? Do you have a favorite pair of pants? Do they make you just feel fabulous?

Thanks for stopping for by lovelies!
