Wearing Work Wear + Link Up

Happy first March Monday! How is March treating you so far friends? In my neck of the woods it looks and feels like Spring. I’m thankful for the budding trees, chirping birds and evidence of things about to turn green. We planted our garden last weekend and I’m anxiously awaiting evidence of little bitty plants popping up. Spring is such a glorious season but oh so short here in Texas. Note to self: enjoy the short little moments of Spring because it will be HOT so very soon.

Well, it’s been forever since I shared anything in the work wear/business wear vein. So I went back to last year and pulled a couple of looks from March that were appropriate for the office I worked in at that time. A couple of transition looks during a month of weather uncertainty. Cool one day and warm the next…but this green blouse and hounds tooth pants look will definitely work for this season.

As you’re probably aware I have been talking about discovering your personal style and developing looks you love during the winter season. Do these looks define my style? Well, a year after wearing these I’m asking myself, “Would I wear these looks again?” The answer is probably not. I purged the blouse because I only wore it a couple of times and didn’t love it. The skirt is gone and pants are in a pending pile.

This is where I have to decide what is really me. Have you had to do this? Have you worked through pieces that you thought you loved only to determine you didn’t? That has been the case for me with lots of pieces. Last year I created these looks from a Pinterest inspiration. What I learned is I might like a look and be able to recreate it but that does not mean that it’s me. J’s Everyday Fashion was my inspiration. She created a great look but in the end it just wasn’t really me.

HoudstoothOn another note, I have been wanting to linkup with my friend Shaunacey {Simply Shaunacey} for her Monday Moment’s of Gratitude. Since I always want to participate {and I hope you will as well}, I decided to include at least one thing I’ve been grateful for this past week. I have to say that last week was hard for me. I felt like everything I touched at work was a disaster. I have also felt a little behind in other ways which caused me to feel stressed. But on Saturday I was able to spend some sweet time with a young woman I am mentoring. I was so encouraged and was refocused after our conversation. Those are truly the moments I live for…pouring into the lives of others and talking through life as the Lord would have us live. What are you grateful for right now or last week? Hope you’ll stop and read all the posts at Simply Shaunacey.

And since it’s Monday, it’s time for our link-up. Thanks to everyone who joined in last week. Whitney and I enjoyed reading your posts and searching for our favorite looks. Can’t wait to see what you lovely ladies link up this week.

I don’t always link up but when I do here’s where you’ll find me linking up.

    • You are way too sweet! Hope you're day as been wonderful!
  • While I realize you are discovering what works for you and your wardrobe, I must say I do think you look great in both of these looks. I particularly love the houndstooth pants and leopard belt together - so chic! Thanks for letting me know about Shaunacey's Monday Moments; need to check it out. Have a wonderful week, Carrie.
    • Thank you, Jennie! I do love the hounds tooth and leopard together. Hope you love Shaunacey's post. Have a great week, friend!
  • Loving those pants!!! Jaymie
  • You planted a garden, I made a snowman. Such different worlds! I love your work wear look and really hope this week is better for you! Shoes to Shiraz
    • Lol! Yes, we are in such different worlds and get kindred hearts. This Monday was much better than the last one. I hope you are getting better!!
  • I do like that skirt, sad to see it go :) I love how intentional you are about ensuring you only have pieces you love and that scream your signature style, that's amazing. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!! So happy you're linking up this week. I've found writing my Monday posts a welcome change especially after a trying week. I hope this week is 1000x better for you and you find a million other beautiful moments to think about as this next week closes. Simply Shaunacey
    • My intent was to keep a gratitude journal this year but I am totally failing on that front. BUT I want to do so I'm going to try to start now! I think it's important to be intentionally grateful. Thanks for creating the linkup.

Love the green with the classic houndstooth bottoms. It seems Springy there. We are covered in snow here. Please stop by my page and join my linkup. Thank you.
    • Thanks, Ada! Yes, spring is here in Texas and the windy weather proves it for sure.
  • I love your honesty about exploring your style, and how you're sharing the process with us. I do like both looks, especially that skirt, but ultimately you have to wear what you love and feel comfortable in! I've done that too where I've recreated a look I pinned and then felt "off" because it wasn't quite me. I hope this week is a better week for you!
    • It is a little bit of a chore to curate a wardrobe you love but it does make it easier to get dressed. It's worth it but it does reveal how much $$ I spent on trying to be someone else.

  • Loving that color!! Gorgeous workwear looks. Enjoy your week! Mary www.marymurnane.com
    • Thanks so much sweet Mary!
  • Funny how what we see in ourselves and how we feel isn't what others see, I think that color blouse looks fantastic on you, but if you don't feel fantastic, not worth it! Keep being Lovely :)
    • You are so sweet! Thank you, friend!
  • I'm so jealous that it's springtime in your neck of the woods. Granted it is supposed to be warmer here this week but we still have snow on the ground. I'm really ready to pull out my spring shoes so I need that slush to be gone!
    • I remember those slushy days. I don't really miss them. I hope it warms up soon for you!
  • I'm sorry your week was rough. We haven't planted our garden yet - too much rain! But that's what spring looks like in Seattle. I think these outfits are lovely on you - but if it doesn't make you happy, it needs to go!
    • Thank you, friend! We are having rounds of rain this week. :(

I love the color of your top! It is so perfect for Spring! :) Rachel Simply Rachel Nicole
  • It's too bad that that outfit isn't you because it's a great look AND it looks fabulous on you! But I'm proud of you for being faithful to what you feel is you! Hope your week is great this week! ~Sheila Making the Most of Every Day
  • LOVE that top and skirt and glasses combo. My favourite and that shirt just pops for spring. Gorgeous, Carrie! They may not be you, but you can pull off anything. Deena's been making me really take a good look at what my personal style is as well. I may have to try this combo and see if it's me. ;-)
    • Oh, if you try it let me know. I think it would look great on you!

You're in Texas too, Carrie?? Isn't it a little sad that we seem to have gone from Winter to Summer, in the blink of an eye, completely bypassing Spring? Sigh. p/s big fan of the pants look, especially that leopard print skinny belt, so cool.
    • Last week was beautiful but this week is just full of rain...Thanks for stopping by!
      • Sheela Goh
Yes it is!! I can't quite decide if I like it better this way :) have a good weekend ahead, Carrie. http://sheelagoh.com/2016/03/11/being-confident-a-link-up/
