September Capsule Recap

The September Capsule! Well, I have to admit that I did not finish well and I’m glad it’s behind me. As I have said in another post, I believe March and September are the most difficult months to dress myself. I was seriously reminded that those months are times when I am totally tired of my current clothing options and my creativity plummets. But there was good in this September Capsule too. I enjoy learning and this was a learning experience for me. From choosing my pieces to not getting pictures and everything in between, I can walk away having grown from the experience.

Let’s start at the beginning. These are all my original pieces that I started with at the first of September. Choosing these pieces allowed me to start down the path of learning what works and what doesn’t work any longer for me. I’ll explain a little on that later in the post.

September Capsule

I definitely put together some looks that I did not like and honestly I didn’t waste time taking pictures of those. Instead I tried to focus on what did work and what I liked and would wear again. I’m sharing my favorite looks today.

In the end these were my four favorites.

camo+chambrayThese camo pants have become a go-to for me. I love the fit and pattern. I have found them to be much more versatile than I originally thought {which is why it took me forever to actually make the purchase}.

black pencil skirtLeopard print and pencil skirts are a couple of my dear friends. The color of this leopard print is different from the others in my closet but I have found I like leopard print in these tones too.

black pencil+chambrayPencil skirt again with a leopard print accent. Chambray with black bottoms is another look I really like for an office look.

Classic LookThis classic look is easy and chic. I really like these jeans and the fit for me is a favorite.

So what did I learn?

  • September is a difficult month to create looks and limiting myself to 20+ pieces was super hard for me.
  • I don’t like kimonos! I decided I’m not a fan of them but I found a useful way to wear them. They make really good “robes”. I can become a little chilly when the A/C runs at home so when my shoulders become cold, I simply slip on a kimono. Bam! Problem solved!
  • The white blouse is going bye-bye. It’s not a crisp blouse. It’s a little flimsy and see-though. I replaced it with a better quality one from The Limited.
  • The little blue skirt with birds is super cute but I decided it’s not really me. I returned it to Old Navy.
  • I’m not a huge fan of white pants. I am going to try and stretch myself and wear them this fall or winter with boots. I know this will be a challenge for me.
  • The grey skinny jeans need to be hemmed rather than rolled. I think I’ll like the fit better once that happens. As of right now I’m not happy with the fit when they are rolled.
  • The remainder of the pieces are still ones that I like and I will definitely wear in the future.

In the end, a monthly capsule wardrobe is so useful to learn about pieces I love and ones I don’t. I think it forces me to really think differently about my pieces and my wardrobe in general. And guess what? Create28 does something similar for me. I’m thrilled Create28 Fall Looks starts tomorrow. Hope you’re going to participate.

Bye Bye Frizzy Fly-Aways

Hello, friends! I am super excited to talk about hair today. Are you surprised? I know that is not one of my usual topics. I am perplexed about my hair so often lately. It continues to baffle me as I grow older. One day it’s dry and the next it’s breaking off only to be followed by a frizziness that never existed before the last few years.

I have been encouraged to try some new styles {encouraged but not mastered yet} to perk up my looks. A few of my blogging friends have shared a hair style challenge. Check them out here and here.

Another way I have been encouraged in regards to my hair has been by using the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler. I have used flat irons for several years but haven’t been completely happy with them. The reason most likely stems from their quality. I have to say the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler has been blowing my mind with its amazing results with my hair. It is a totally quality product.

Do you want to see some proof? Here’s the real me after I washed my hair. This is a picture after it mostly air dried. I used a blow dryer a little bit when it was still a little damp. Here it is, friends.

frizzy head

My hair did not have breakage just a few years ago nor was it frizzy ever in my life until now. It is also dry which is why I try not to blow dry it completely. I have also been trying to limit heat products too. Since I know I need to do something with this unflattering look, my go-to place to limit heat is the blow dryer in hopes to alleviate dryness and frizz.

Here’s my after look. I hope you’ll agree that it’s much better!

flat iron hair

After using the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler you can see how sleek my hair looks. This is immediately after drying my hair too. It looks great here but it continues to look good for several days even though I only wash my hair a few times per week. {I stopped washing my hair everyday quite awhile ago to reduce damage}. With the previous flat iron I was using, my hair become more dry each day that I used it. Not so with Irresistible Me. My hair has stayed soft and manageable and I have been a happy girl.

Hope you’ll stop and check out their other products as well. They offer hair extensions and and awesome curling wand.

Fall Transition + Link-up

Hello, friends! Hope you had a restful weekend and were able to enjoy some time away from the workplace. It was a low-key weekend but one I thoroughly needed with some quiet time to allow my heart to reflect on recent life events. Sometimes in the busyness and complicated times of life I just need to step back, step off the wheel and take an assessment of many things. Reflection time is refreshing to me. What about you?

As seasons change I think that also brings a time for reflection. I have been studying my wardrobe and reflecting on style during this time of transition. So this has been a fabulous opportunity to extend some of my spring or summer pieces. There are a few tops that I wore over and over again this past summer. My breezy tees were the favorites I reached for more times than I’d like to confess. I’ve featured some of them on the blog too. Here’s my two favorites.

Plaid Breezy Top

Dotted Breezy Top

Why did I reach for them so often? Ease, comfy and the ability to mix patterns and an assortment of colored bottoms with which they easily paired.

How can they can transition into fall? I found a couple easy options in my closet. My first look features the little polka dot tee. It’s easy to pattern mix because the print is quite small. Here I’ve mixed it with stripes and leopard print. It could easily mix with a variety of colored {and some patterned} cardigans too. I chose boot cut jeans instead of colored bottoms. I would wear this with olive, burgundy, purple or grey bottoms as well.

Transition-Stripes

Fall Transition-Stripes

Although I featured the windowpane tee earlier this summer, I wanted to share a striped tee for fall transition today. Again I mixed patterns but added a pop of muted color in the raspberry flats.

Fall Transition

This striped tee could be worn under a variety of cardigans, jackets or vests. It would also work with colored bottoms like a mentioned above.

Fall Transition + Pattern Mixing

For these looks I chose 3/4 length cardigans because in Texas this is a nice transition. I’m still trying to determine how I actually feel about them. I really don’t like them when they stretch out at the elbow but I think I’m still a fan of a few short-sleeved and 3/4 sleeved cardigans. They are good options.

Another September Capsule Report

I’m struggling, friends. I’m struggling with my September Capsule. As I have been thinking about style seasons and how we all dress depending on our own climate, I realized that March and September might be the most difficult months to create looks. The weather is mostly in one season but it’s not the one I {or we} want to be in at that moment. I want to be in the next season but it’s not happening yet. I think these looks are kinda give up for me. A give up on summer and a give up on my pieces because they mostly represent summer to me. Even though I’m struggling, I realize there is success in this moment of struggle. Understanding the difficult of this month in terms of style is something I didn’t realize a year ago. I think that is progress!

Even though I’m not really thrilled with any of these looks, I wanted to share them with you anyway.

Grey+Leopard Top

Why are my favorite pictures always the ones with my eyes closed? Posting anyway because this is real life, friends. How does my hubby get those pics each and every time? I promise I’m awake and not dreaming about leopard print.

Grey+Leopard

I love a look with all neutrals so in theory this look could easily be a favorite of mine. I think I’m questioning the fit of the jeans. I’m wondering if they would be better hemmed than rolled.

Grey Skinnies + Neutrals

Grey + Neutrals

Here’s an easy go-to look for me. Stripes and leopard print will easily wind up on my on my body when I’m stumped with what to wear.

Grey + Stripes

Grey Skinnies + Stripes

As I was writing this post and looking at the pictures, I was trying to determine what’s off that makes me not satisfied with the end results. The top portion of each look fit the bill for me. I was happy with each of those but it really is the bottom portion. It’s both the jeans and the shoe choices that are not resonating with me.

I feel the jeans are not fitting well and I don’t love them. I plan to have them hemmed and see if that makes a difference. Shoes? It’s about time to get used to shoes instead of sandals. That is going to be an adjustment. I just might struggle with liking looks while the shoe transition takes place.
