Create28~Teacher Style w/Deena

I’m Deena from Shoes to Shiraz and am thrilled that Carrie asked me to contribute to her Create28. I love that this series is pushing women to get creative in their own wardrobe, wearing pieces that suite their body and not someone else’s. Yesterday on my blog I gave a couple tips that may (or may not) help you define your personal style. Well today, I would like to show you how I dress for the high school French teacher role while being faithful to what I want to and what I like to wear:

1- The dressy look/there’s probably a superintendent in the building: blazer + a t-shirt dress + fun shoes.

2- The everyday teacher look/comfy enough to get cozy with a pile of corrections: oversized sweater + leggings + flats. I usually go with a neutral sweater and then either my flats or leggings are bold. No corrections were compromised in the making of this post. Nor the cat.

3- The dressed down/yay for jeans for Jesus on Fridays look: blazer + blouse + jeans + fun heels. My shoes normally add a burst of colour.

I love dressing for my role as a stylish high school French teacher. But mostly, I love showing that fashion can be fun and an extension of your personality. Do you have a signature look?

LOL...great post Deena!!! That dress/blazer look is stunning!! And I need to get some fun print leggings! And this Friday is Jeans for Jesus?!? I must tell my principal about this ASAP!!!
    • Yeah, it's an added bonus to our one day a month we get to wear jeans...everyone gives however much $ and the funds go to a family in need in the school.
  • I need that blazer. And those leggings. Gorgeous!
    • Thanks! Blazer is from H&M but there's an awesome one at Simons that you will love: http://www.simons.ca/simons/product/9630-11612/Jackets/Floral+jersey+blazer?/en/&catId=&colourId=49
      • Direct links to things I LOVE? This is not helping the resisting shopping situation.

  • Love all of these looks! And of course you know how much I love your shoes. 3 great outfits :)
  • Not only do I think you are a totally fashionable teacher but I love that you are you. Your style has always been an extension of you. Don't change, friend!
    • Aw thanks, and thanks for letting me guest post!
  • Love them all. You look so young and chic, you could be one of your students :)!

I'm a teacher and our staff dresses very nice. We would never dress like this. Yes we are very hands on with our students. But take pride in how we present ourselves.
    • if you don't have anything nice to say....
    • I'm sorry you don't find my outfits to be "presentable", we obviously have very different tastes in clothing. And I'm not hands on at all with my students, that's quite frowned upon, actually. Thanks for the comment.
    • Hi Rebecca! Thank you for stopping by today and reading this post. As a former teacher and principal I can appreciate the different styles of every individual teacher. It's always nice to allow people to express themselves as individuals and to celebrate them as just that. For me this means that each of my teachers dressed differently and interacted differently with their students. I do appreciated that because everyone brought something different to the school. Just as Deena's style may be different than yours does not mean that it is wrong or less just different. That is not bad but rather refreshing. Personally, I would have loved to work with Deena as she inspires creativity which is reflected in her style. As a principal I would have hired her! I probably would have copied her looks too!
      • Where's the like/love button?!
      • Ditto, double ditto! I think Deena's fun, smart fashion sense would earn her any job she applied for. She would stand head and shoulders above those who turn up in a traditionally safe pair of dress pants and print blouse. I would pick Deena's soigné style over plain and careful any day.
    • Deena is dressed completely professional. She takes pride in everything she does. Also, love that you posted this anonymously. Too afraid to let anyone see you perfect teaching outfit. Truth be told, I bet you aren't a teacher at all. Just an a-hole. (Is that allowed, Deena? I'm not sorry if it isn't)
      • I'm awesome. Just read your follow up post. A-hole is definitely allowed. #greatmindsthinkalike
  • bet you you're the most stylish teacher out of the bunch!! LOVE all your outfits, you've got great taste and you fantastic as ALWAYS!! I'm obsessed with those leggings. Simply Shaunacey
  • Laura
You look adorable! Love that floral top!
  • I love how your outfits are so you!! Those shoes...*heart*!! ~Sheila Making the Most of Every Day
    • Aw, thanks. I'm happy to see that people can see me through my style!
  • As a middle school teacher I love seeing how other teachers dress for work. I've been looking for ways to wear leggings in a professional setting.
    • Leggings + oversized sweater and flats is my go-to if I'm in a need for something comfy. Essential is that my butt and then some are covered if I'm going to wear leggings.
      • Leggings count as tights at my school so whatever we wear over them has to be knee-length. I need to find some longer sweaters!
      • i WISH we had guidelines at our school like that! So many teenagers thinking those sheer leggings are pants. Sigh. I'm short, so it's easy to find near-knee length sweaters. My favourite place is H&M.
