Create28~Trying a Trend + Linkup

It’s Trying a Trend day at Create28. Be sure to stop by and see what Whitney and Casey are up to with a new trend. I’m sure they’ll be rocking their looks {as usual}! I for one do not always eagerly embrace trends. Since I’m a visual person, I tend to have to see it over and over again before I buy in. Sometimes I don’t buy in and sometimes I have buyers remorse when I not only buy in but put out dollars for an item or two. I later discover either {1} it’s not “me” or {2} I just don’t like it.

This leads me to today’s trend. Simple and classic is where I’m staying. I have had thoughts and temptations about fringe booties, fringe handbags or fringe something but opted out. I have thought about some of the color palettes out there this season and again opted out. I’ve looked at various other trends but in the end I returned to simple and classic. I do love all the long cardigans, flowing cardigans and ponchos. I chose a black and white print cardigan because I knew it would be something I would wear and love. It didn’t hurt that it was super soft. It’s a little trendy and yet I think it is classic enough to hang around for a while.

I’m trying to keep it simple and classic in this look today. Simple and not overworked is one thing that has recently been on my mind when I put a look together.

Simple - two colors + booties + minimal jewelry. This is what I chose after trying too hard in the following looks.

Since I love to mix patterns, I tried to put three patterns together and it just didn’t seem to work. Color and print size wise it works, but in these looks the cardigan is the statement piece. The look doesn’t need a lot of help with other busyness. Good lessons learned: {1} Some looks just don’t work in the real world like they do in my head {2} Some good things such as pattern mixing can be too much {3} Be willing to step back from styling choices and options that you love when they clearly are not working. Bottom line: simple is better than overworked. Think ease and effortless style because that speaks louder than being over styled.

Learning! Style is about learning your own style which takes trial and error. I was about to give up on this look until I look a step back and thought about simple. If you find yourself in this dilemma don’t be afraid to just start over. Keep learning, friends.

Here’s a little inspiration for fall style.

Each week we choose a favorite…check out Casey & Whitney’s blogs to see if it’s you! My favorite this week is Ana Luiza from Northwest Blonde. Ana Luiza featured an easy black and white look with a gorgeous pop of color. The bright pink was a fabulous choice! She surely did make a statement with this look. You can read the post here.

  • I feel SO related to this! I'm not an early adopter myself and stick to classics more often than not. I also put together amazing outfits in my head that just don't work IRL! I think you did a great job in here though, and since it's not an over the top trendy piece I'm sure you're gonna make the most out of it! http://tulipsandheels.com
    • Thanks, Grise! I love it when we can relate to one another. That makes blogging so much more fun! So glad you stopped by!
  • You def styled this trend well while staying classy and elegant. The black and white color palette can never go wrong no matter what trend it is. xo Sheree http://poshclassymom.com IG: @poshclassymom
    • Thanks, Sheree! That was my goal so your comments makes me feel as though I was successful. Glad you stopped by!

Open flyway cardigans like these are a trend I love too. I adore your houndstooth and plaid open cardigan and flawless styling of it. Pleasure linking up as always. Welcome by.
  • Beautiful cardigan!
  • Love that cardigan on you! And you're right sometimes you have to take a step back and think, is that really me? I decided to opt out of the fringe fade too, just not me.
    • You'd think I would know my style by now but I still get confused. lol It is something I have been thinking about quite a bit recently.

What a cute piece! I totally agree, not every trend is for every body! www.amemoryofus.com
    • Yep, I wish I like them all and could wear them all but that is so not the case. Sounds like you can totally relate! Glad you stopped by!
  • Alicia
That cardigan is absolutely adorable! Alicia | Between the Pearls

I love your houndstooth cardigan - it's so perfect for this time of the year! Alice www.happinessatmidlife.com Hope to see your Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
  • Apparently we both feel the same way about trends :) And I didn't even THINK of a big, chunky cardigan as a trend because I love those allllll of the time. It works out when something you love happens to be a trend, right?!
    • I was a little stumped with what to choose but I went with this because during the Nordstrom sale they were everywhere!
  • I love that you show what you tried but didn't care for. I agree: the simple look is the best in this case. I love that the hounds tooth is classic but the cut is trendy. A perfect blend of the two!
    • Thanks, Sheila. I'm beginning to realize the "mistakes" are almost as important as the actual look.
  • Alison C
I always hate when outfits that seem awesome in my head just doesn't transfer to real life. But trying is always fun!
    • Agreed! It seems more of my looks lately {in my head} haven't been very good at all.
  • Loving the houndstooth cardigan. The length is perfect, and it looks so cozy for fall! Rachael http://www.threadsforthomasblog.com
    • Thank you, Rachael! Hopefully, our temps will plummet so I can wear this one.
  • So pretty - I love this unique cardigan on you. I just bought a pair of booties with fringe on them - but only a little bit of fringe, because I'm still not sure about it!
    • Oh, I cannot wait to see your fringe boots!
  • Emma Peach
I really like the cardigan! I've been looking to add something in houndstooth print to my wardrobe for a while. A stylish cardigan is so useful for autumn. Emma xxx www.style-splash.com
    • Thanks, Emma! I sure hope you find something houndstooth! I love that print. Glad you stopped by!
