Hello September Capsule Looks

September is here and so are my first looks for this month’s capsule wardrobe. The first look that I put together from my pieces was a look I really liked and wore to work. I’m not sure that I loved it but when I wore it I knew that it embodied a casual “me” style.

A denim vest is one of those pieces that can be a completer for a variety of looks. For this look the denim added blue to the green skirt and I adore that color combination. After work I decided to snap some pictures in the afternoon breeze and sunshine.

I think a goal of a capsule wardrobe is learn to remix your pieces and create new looks. While I had a couple of base pieces on I thought I would try at least one more completer piece and I came up with look as well.

When I first chose my pieces I hadn’t thought about this skirt with the kimono, so I was completely surprised to put it together and found it worked.

While I had the skirt and tank on I thought I would look for one more look to try. Typically, I don’t layer a button down over a tank but when I tried it I was surprised again. It turned out to be a cute look.

And then it got just a little breezy…which is always welcome during a hot afternoon in Texas.

These are the first looks I put together for this capsule wardrobe remix. Now it’s time for the confession. If you read my post on Monday {here} you might remember that I only had 27 pieces and said I might add one more. Well, I decided to add the white tank. How did I forget a white tank or tee in a capsule wardrobe anyway??? Now I’m at the 28 pieces total. But did you notice I’m wearing a chambray? Yep, that didn’t make the pictures on Monday. It was in my original pieces and pictures but for some reason I changed the collage and added a different button. I’m making my correction now. Here’s the original blouse that is being deleted {like it was supposed to be} and the chambray will be added. I hope that makes sense. Here’s the blouses.

One more thing, friends. Did you notice I’m still wearing the two pair of shoes that I have worn all summer. Both of these have been so versatile throughout the summer and will probably carry me through much of this month. A little bit of less is more in the shoe department.

Have you thought about trying a capsule wardrobe or a seasonal capsule wardrobe? Why not jump in and try it during the month of September? I’d love to have you join in. I’ll add a link up next week and right now you can post your looks on Instagram and use the hashtag #septembercapsule.

If you’re still not sure about limiting your pieces for a month why not try this? Head to your closet and choose a bottom and top {or a couple of tops} like in this post and see if you can create some looks just by changing out completer pieces {sweaters, jackets, vests, button-downs or scarves}. I’d love to hear about what you discovered right in your closet! And if you’re looking for a little more inspiration, stop by and see my friends Karen at She Thought She Could and Alex at Undergraduate Style with their capsule wardrobes for this month.

Hope y’all have a lovely day! Thanks so much for stopping by today.

  • All 3 looks are really good and it's fun discovering how pieces can be mixed and matched and getting another outfit from them, just as you did with your kimono. I love the last look with the chambray shirt, especially the last photo! And you have chosen beautiful necklaces.
    • I agree - it's always fun to find new looks with the pieces already in the closet. Glad you stopped by today. Hope you're doing well.
  • I love the skirt with the denim or chambray top. Such cute outfits.
    • Thanks, Amy! Trying something new and getting surprised that I like it is the best!

I would never think to wear the kimono with that but it totally works! I think that is the beauty of a capsule..you try combos you might not think of! LOVE IT, girl! Wish I could join you, but I am about to start Work Wear..which is a capsule, kinda I guess!! :) XOXO
    • I wasn't planning to either but then it came to me and I tried it. So surprised!! Have fun in the Work Wear Challenge. Looking forward to your posts!

3 great outfits. THAT SKIRT IS SO FUN AND FLIRTY! I must say I love all of your necklaces. Where did you get those awesome necklaces Carrie? Please tell me. Thanks.
    • Thanks, Ada! I purchased them from different vendors on the site Groopdelz.
  • Love it! I was actually going to wear something very similar to the first outfit today, but thought, I might get cold with no sleeves at work. Especially when I take a van with penguins, seriously, the guys on my van keep the air conditioning blasting at 5am, like who needs air conditioning at 5am?!
    • I totally understand about A/C. At work mine is controlled by men but I have a door I can open to the outdoors, which I do. Get a few flies and a hornet or two but at least I'm not frozen.
  • I love your kimono with this skirt! I get the best ideas from you!
    • Thank you, friend! I totally didn't think of putting those pieces together until we started taking pictures.
  • Love that skirt and all of the outfits you created! My favorite is with the kimono! Jill Doused In Pink
    • Thanks, Jill. That's one look I didn't think would wind up on the blog.
  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
My favorite is the very first outfit, then the outfit with the kimono is my second favorite. Wow, you created a lot of outfits with this skirt! Carrie curlycraftymom.com
    • Thanks, Carrie! I surely didn't think I would put these looks together when I started this capsule.
  • Katie Mitchell
Love that skirt!! Great look with the vest!! Beautiful!!
  • Great homage to Marilyn Monroe with the breeze blowing your hair and your skirt. Love the flirty, gauzy length and feel of the skirt. My favorite look is the pairing with the kimono. Beautiful, friend and beautiful friend.
    • You nailed it, Leslie! I was going to say something about Marilyn Monroe but I couldn't remember the movie title and then I just got sidetracked to google it.
  • Dawn Lucy

  • Happinessatmidlife
Love all the ways you've styled the skirt. Just curious - when you do your capsule do you wear all the outfits at in the 28 days or do you take the photos and mxi other clothes in between? Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend! Alice www.happpinessatmidlife.com
    • Hi Alice! Great question - I try to wear all those pieces but give myself some freedom if something happens that I didn't plan for and need an additional piece or look. Because there are so many looks that can be created with 28 pieces, I try to snap as many photos as I can while I have a certain piece(s) on. Just like this post, I wore the first look to work but snapped the other photos because...well, you know all the logistics for photo shoots.
