Hello, dear ones! I hope all is well in your world as we move into May and the promise of beautiful weather. May is such a fun new style season and I’m really excited that May is here. In the past, I put my eggs in the Spring basket of March and April but those months have just disappointed me because I’m going back and forth trying to adjust daily to the weather demands. Not being fully committed to Spring because of the temps and storms has caused me confusion on exactly what to wear. I’m ready to put my daily pants routine behind me and embrace more dresses and skirts. Hopefully, May and its beautiful days are here to stay! Cold fronts please exit the state of Texas!
I’ve been doing a little sorting through my closet and changing up my style by trying things on and creating new looks. I’ve made a couple of trips to Clothes Mentor and lightened the load in my closet which always feels great. For a few years I’ve really wanted to embrace and live in a Capsule Wardrobe. My hang up seems to be that I feel they are a little boring. No longer because Jenn {Mapp Craft} has entered my life! Her capsule ideas have really helped me to think about my clothes and the image I wanted to portray. Yes, I’m a classic girl but I don’t want to be boring and always be predictable. Today my look might just be a little predictable but wheels are turning in my head to take my dressier pieces down a notch to create a more casual and versatile wardrobe.
I purchased this skirt last year from J. Crew Factory. I was thinking about letting it go because it sits a little higher on my waist then I prefer. I also prefer an A-Line or flowing skirt over a pencil. I know call me crazy on that one but I still struggle with close-fitting clothing near my body.
I wore this look last year and thought I had to wear this skirt with a top that was tucked in. I couldn’t get past only wearing this skirt as a business work-wear look that is not really casual. The problem is my office is more business casual then I realized when I shopped for work clothes.
After reading Jenn’s e-book, I tried to look at this skirt differently. I wanted to wear it to work without being super dressed up. So I added the military vest over a basic white tee and flat sandals.
Another way I created a more casual look was by adding the straw purse/tote. I love the casual vibe of it and the fact that it is totally versatile. It’s a great bag for work and the weekend but can also be used when I head to the pool to catch some rays as well. It’s the perfect size for little extras like a water bottle, Kindle, snacks, etc.
I’m super excited to start taking my work-wear Spring and Summer looks from last year and make them much more casual this year. Hope you’ll stay tuned with me on this journey!
Last week, Whitney and I started back with our weekly link-up. We are thankful to all of you who linked up your posts. Please link up again and help us spread the word about A Beautiful Melange. Can’t wait to see what you share this week and please remember it doesn’t have to be fashion…it can be any post!
Have a great day, friends!
