TBB Ask: Giving Thanks Edition

Oh, hello November! I’m glad you showed up being all fall like and all. Sometimes fall in Texas can mean chilly rain, which is not my favorite but cooler temps are always welcome this time of year. Currently, I’m writing this post {or finishing this post} from the Des Moines International Airport. I’m waiting on my flight to take me back to Texas. I’ve spent the weekend in Iowa with my family. Sometimes I am able to make trips home that are happy but this one was filled with sadness. A funeral for my uncle and a move for my parents into Assisted Care Living. This is where life is as I move deeper into my 50’s. More thoughts on this pieces of life. Stay tuned. To be continued….

Anyway, today is the first Monday of the month and that means it’s time for another edition of the TBB Asks. Glad to be linking up with my friends over at The Blended Blog and I am looking forward to reading your posts. Be sure to hop over to The Blended Blog and link up with us today!

1. Honestly, yes, I have kept a Gratitude Journal. Sadly, I must not be very grateful because I can’t keep one going. Keeping it real, friends!

2. No hosting for Thanksgiving. We plan to help at a community dinner with our church to serve those who do not have a place to go on Thanksgiving. It is always a blessing.

3. Potatoes and cookies receive the same response from me, “I’ve never met one I didn’t like!” Mashed potatoes with or without gravy float my boat any day. But, I also adore dark turkey meat. I know some people might think that is crazy but dark meat is just juicier.

4. I am super grateful for the changing of seasons. I am totally a warm weather girl who loves blues skies and sunshine but after months of it, I’m ready for cool temps and all things Fall.

5. I like lots of pumpkin flavored foods, especially pumpkin bread but the only part of pumpkin pie I like is the crust. Scoop out the inside and leave the crust to me.

6. I love traditional cookbooks. I also love a real cookbook that is bound. I can follow recipes online but I love a good cookbook.

7. Oven baked turkeys suit me just fine. I’m practical and traditional.

8. Is the best part of Thanksgiving the leftovers, or is it just me? I love leftovers and especially on Thanksgiving!

9. One household product I’m grateful for is Mrs. Meyer’s Dish Soap. I love this stuff!

10. Although I enjoy eating out, I really like home-cooked meals.

I’m getting excited for Turkey Day and filling my belly with all the good tasting things. Hope you are too!

Have a beautiful day!

Hugs, Carrie

  • I always look forward to Thanksgiving leftovers :)
  • I'm so sorry that you had to go home for the reasons you did. Hopefully some Texas sunshine will cheer you up. :)
  • What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. We won't have family here for the holiday so maybe I can find somewhere we can help serve others who are less fortunate than we. Thank you for the inspiration. I am so sorry about your uncle's death and this difficult weekend moving your parents. My parents moved into a retirement community/assisted living apartment 7 years ago. Three days before the movers were scheduled to come get their things, my mom took an overdose and we almost lost her. The move was that terrifying and stressful to her. We kids, "kids" wound up flying to KY, packing the rest of their things, getting everything set up in their new place while trying to handle my mom's fragile condition and my father's poor health. What a trying time. Prayers that your parents adjust well and that they come to enjoy this season in their lives.
  • I'm so sorry for all the difficulties going on in your life right now. Wish I could give you a hug in person!

Take care during this season of your life. I am kind of in the same boat. I have never tried the Mrs. Meyers products but maybe I will look into them. Patty GoodBetterBestFood.blogspot.com

I'm usually such a foodie, but I just don't really like the classic Thanksgiving foods...but I'll take apple pie and some of the other desserts. LOL -Lauren www.shotingstarsmag.net

Prayers for you and your family in your loss and for peace with this stage of life. I'm thankful my parents are still able to take care of themselves. I can't keep a journal either, but I don't think it has anything to do with no being grateful. We take so many things for granted until we stop and think about it. Once I think about things, I'm grateful for a lot.
