It’s Sweater Time + A Giveaway

Yay, for sweater weather, right! Yay, for fall, right? Well, we had a few of those fallish days in August and even September but right now we are not really getting a break on the heat here in Texas. Which is a total boo! Especially because It’s Sweater Weather here on the blog and on The Blended Blog.

Like many of you, I love fall fashion and particularly sweaters. What is better than layering and sweaters are the perfect piece to be an outfit completer. As I sat down to write this post and did my proper outfit planning I was super excited and then…You know the “and then” means something life happened. For me, it was the heat. I just couldn’t bear putting on sweaters for this post with temps in the 90s.

But I did go back to the archives and was reminded to be grateful to have inspiration from last year’s looks. Last fall I worked in a super casual environment. This fall I’m working with executives which equals not casual. The problem lies in that I still own many of pieces from last year and how to remix that wardrobe for my current environment. I gonna “make it work” like Tim Gunn says.

Do you ever find yourself in this type of predicament? If so, I have some tips.

1. Find your old look.
2. Determine the appropriate style for the event/venue/environment. Is it casual/work/dressy?
3. Go to your closet and choose some pieces that fit #3.
4. Create some looks by remixing new and old pieces.
5. Start trying on your pieces to pick your new looks.
Here we go…..
Look 1
This red sweater is a fave of mine. Is it a trendy color this fall? Probably not, but it is one of better colors and I will definitely wear it. I won’t wear it to work with these skinny jeans and sneakers though. Last year work appropriate but not in 2016. I would change this up by replacing the skinny jeans with black dress pants or black pencil skirt. Replace sneakers with a different leopard print shoe - heels/wedge or flats. Perfect look + I’m still utilizing my current wardrobe and remixing. Truthfully, I wore this with the black pencil skirt and leopard heels on the interview for current job. WIN/WIN!!
Look 2

I love this long blackish sweater and this look with the striped blouse was another fave last fall. This fall I’ll replace those skinny jeans with black skinny dress pants or burgundy ones. Because I’m short, I probably won’t change my bottom to a skirt because the sweater might overpower it. It’s always good to try those type of ideas and make sure they work before it only works in your head and your running late and have it on…Been there, done that and it was the start of bad day for me.
Look 3

Blue on blue. This shade is very complementary of my skin coloring. You know what I’m talking about here? Those colors that pop on you and make you feel fabulous. That is blue for me. Again, for this look it’s all about changing out the bottoms. Here I could remix with my mustard skirt or even mustard pants. This blue and mustard are a mix made in my happy place. A pair of neutral pumps and I’m feeling like my game on kind of day.

Friends, I hope you’ll get to remixing and use your pieces for casual, work or dressy. Work them and make them work for you to create a wardrobe you love.

Today, I am participating in a blog hop with my sweet friends at The Blended Blog. From here, please hop over and see the beautiful and always gracious, Andrea, at Living on Cloud Nine.
