Off the Shoulder Works

Hey friends! Long time, no posts. Well, confession…I’ve been in a little blogging slump but I’ve also been distracted by selling and buying a home. Is it really going to happen? This I don’t know but we’re moving to the end and hope the answer is yes. I’ll keep you posted.

Whitney and I are collaborating on little series with remixing a work and casual look. Usually, we’ll be here on last Monday of the month but this time it’s Tuesday because of Memorial Day yesterday. For my look this month, I decided to remix an off the shoulder top. Another confession, this is really my first off the shoulder top. Don’t know why I haven’t hopped on the trend but alas I’m here.

I recently picked up this little black off the shoulder top at Old Navy. I purchased it for casual wear but knew I should be able to pull it off at work too. Let me know what you think about that one.

Simple and cute isn’t it? I’ve been working on narrowing down my closet. I’m working on a base color palette with a few accent colors and prints. Both of these pieces fit nicely into those areas.

So this totally works for casual but can it be pulled for work? Let me know what you think.

I brought up the shoulder part and let it look like a scoop neck top. It’s a scoop in back too but I do think it’s doable for an office unless it’s a business formal {blazers, heels, etc.} type of atmosphere.

My plan is to sneak this little top into my workwear this week and listen for any objections or comments. I really don’t think that will happen because my last experiment rendered no comments. I wore these grey pants on a Monday and Wednesday and either no one noticed or they didn’t say anything. I think it’s the former because we tend to think a lot about we wear and remember our looks but co-workers aren’t paying that much attention. Well, that’s what I think. What about you?

Need a little inspiration for work and casual wear? Hop on over and check out what Whitney’s wearing today.

Have a great day, friends!

Carrie

I think you are right - we think more about what we're wearing than anyone else! Love your OTS top and I say yes it works for work! Glad to see you back Carrie! xo, Kellyann

Darling OTS my friend, you know how I love em'! You look so super cute and summer sensational. LOVE the gingham shorts and it works so good wiht the pants too.

      Thank you, sweet Andrea.
  • You NAILED the transition from casual to office, Carrie! I think even I could get away with this look at my very strict, professional, office! Perfecto! P.S. Sometimes I think it just isn't worth being a professional when it comes to latest styles. I really feel that way in the summer time here in Louisiana! It's already so dang HOT!
    • Thank you, Laura! I agree about the professional...I've started being a little more casual.
  • I was super curious about how you were going to do the off-the-shoulder for work. It totally works! I'm so impressed! I think I need to try to wear my off-the-shoulder to work before the school year is over.

I was super stoked that it works. You can do it too, friend!

  • You wear it well both ways, just too cute and I love the checked shorts.
  • Glad to have you back, I missed you!
  • Love it both ways. Definitely works for business casual environment.
  • I think this top is fine for the office. Must admit that I have two of these and I haven't worn them yet as the weather has been so cool. I probably would wear with the shoulders up more often than down on most days anyway.
  • Love the top and it looks great. also loving the shorts think i may have to re think patterened shorts #bloggerclubuk
  • I love the gingham shorts! I love how you were able to style this off the shoulder top into a work appropriate top. http://www.mylittlenest.org

Carrie, it's a pretty top! I much prefer off-the-shoulder to the trendy cold-shoulder look. #SYC

This is a beautiful top and I like how you styled it with gingham shorts! It's simply chic! And I love the off the shoulder stuff too but only own one or two. It's not because I don't want to add more I do but lifestyle wise, it just doesn't work at the moment. I am always bending down to pick up my son off the ground or his toys or something rather that than to worry about flashing people I just slowed down on this department. Btw, good luck on a new home. It's no easy feat so I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Looking forward to your update and happy weekend! Maureen | www.littlemisscasual.com
  • The top and shorts outfit looks great for summer. :) https://livingseasonal.blogspot.co.uk
