Currently: January 2018

currently_ January 2018

Well, the first week of January is here and everything new has begun. New plans, new goals, new clothes, new fitness plan, new eating plan, new reading plan. You name it and it’s probably new. I’m right there in the middle of it and hoping this is the year for me to thrive.

This year I’m also hoping to go 12 for 12 and make it every month to the Currently link-up with Anne in Residence. Best way to finish well is start well. Today it’s time to start well!

Starting: My husband and I are starting to particpate in a marriage group. It’s called re|engage. To be honest I haven’t shared much of the struggles we’ve had for several years. We addressed some in the last seven years but now is the time to face the music and dig deep. For those of you with a spouse who has seved overseas in a combat zone, I trust you understand that experience changes a person.

Hoping: Oh how I have hopes for 2018.

Lights And Latkes Ad

Scheduling: I have this goal of embracing some new hobbies this year. Currently I’m trying to schedule a cooking lesson to learn how to cook a fabulous French meal. Hopefully, that will all come together this month.

Sur La Table

Reading: I’ve started making my list and I’m checking it twice with the books I want to read this year. I have a goal to read 1-3 books each month. I’m a slow reader so I know I’ll need to give myself grace when I fall short. For now, I’m in the middle of reading  The Sacred Year by Michael Yankoski but since I was able to snag an e-book from the local library I’m putting it down so I can read The Happiness Project by Gretchan  Rubin.

The Sacred Year: Mapping the Soulscape of Spiritual Practice -- How Contemplating Apples, Living in a Cave and Befriending a Dying Woman Revived My Life by [Yankoski, Michael]The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun

Playing: One thing I love to play is Chinese Checkers. I learned from my grandma when I was young. I actually had her old board but let it go in our big move because it was warped. I have lamented many times over that board and not because it was worth anything in monetary value but rather sentimental. On Christmas morning I opened a gift from my husband which was a replica of the one I had. I cried like a baby.! I hope to be back on my game and kicking butt playing Chinese Checkers with any warm body.

And that’s what I’ve up to Currently. What about you?

Be blessed! ~ Carrie

  • Woohoo you know I love that 12 for 12 New Year's goal :) Scheduling a cooking class sounds like a lot of fun, and I hope you love The Happiness Project as much as I did. I found it really inspiring, so extra good to read at the beginning of a year. Happy 2018!
    • I am loving The Happiness Project so far and I read on another blog that she has written more books (?). I certainly hope so! Happy New Year, Anne!

  • This year sounds like a lot of fun plus growth with your life. The cooking lesson is such a good idea, I actually never thought to take one even though I do love cooking. Must put that on the list for this year. :-). #brillblogposts

    • Thank you, Amber! Hope 2018 is fabulous for you!
  • Marriage is HARD....I remember my first husband was always saying marriage shouldn't be work...well obviously that didn't work out. haha It's so worth it to put forth the energy even on the days when it would be so much easier to just say bye bye. Prayers for you guys as you start this study!
    • Thank you, Shelly! The Lord is faithful and he will see us through our struggles. Of this I am certain!

It's always wonderful to embrace a New Year with a positive attitude. Hope all goes well for you and your dear husband! Hubby and I enjoy playing games together. Often with friends as well. Thanks for sharing with SYC. I'm sure it's not intentional, but I'm not seeing any mention of the party. hugs, Jann
    • Thank you, Jann for stopping by and commenting. Most of thank you for the gentle reminder that I have not faithfully updated my list of blogs where I link up (recently). This is on my to-do list and please feel free to check back and let me know if I am still not up to date. Have a wonderful weekend!
