The Classics + Link-up & Giveaway

Hello to Monday, again! Hope you had a lovely weekend. In my part of Texas we enjoyed a tiny cool front and were able to turn off the A/C for a little while and open the windows. Glorious weather! It may not last but I’m ever so grateful for even a little reprieve from the heat.

What’s up today is a classic piece or pieces. I’m actually posting this theme with Whitney and Casey and I hope you’ll stop by and see what they are featuring for their classic piece(s). I chose dark wash skinny jeans and a white blouse. These are pieces from my September Capsule as well. I’m excited to have these pieces in my capsule because they are basic and classics. I know there is always a debate about “what you have to have in your wardrobe” and then the other side “don’t listen to that junk”. I think both opinions are absolutes and it seems that taking a middle of the road approach might be a little wiser.

Classic Look

Let me clarify what I mean by that statement. Personally, I don’t think anyone can go wrong with some dark wash jeans and a white blouse. Both pieces can work with other pieces in your wardrobe to create multiple looks. For quite awhile I avoided both of these pieces. I never worn skinny jeans because I didn’t like how they looked on me. I didn’t realize that a dark wash jean was more chic than other washes either. Guess what? I got over it! I learned to embrace those things and now actually love them. I also have boot cut and trousers because I’m a fairly equal opportunity girl when it comes it jeans.

For another really long time I avoided button down blouses. Why? I really don’t know but I just did! Now, I’ve learned to embrace them too. I like different types of material for different looks but I see the value of a good white blouse. Taking the steps to add these pieces to my wardrobe has given me a vast array of looks to remix with these pieces being the basic building blocks.

Skinnies+blouse

For this look I chose pearls, a snakeskin belt and black heels but I could easily have used leopard print in some form. A scarf or another type of necklace could easily replace the pearls. Flats, heels, booties, boots would all change this look while still utilizing the same basic pieces. See what I mean? Lots of wear with just a couple of pieces as the basis.

Do I think you should have these type of pieces in your closet? It’s up to you but I think it’s hard to go wrong with them. Basic classic pieces will take you a long way in looking put together but not overworked. That is the look I am currently working on mastering - ease, put togehter, polished and not overworked.

And since it’s Monday, it’s time for our link-up. Thanks to everyone who joined in last week. Whitney, Casey and I enjoyed reading your posts and searching for our favorite looks. Can’t wait to see what you lovely ladies link up this week.

  • Emma Peach
HI Carrie, I found your blog via the link up :-) I love the classic white shirt and jeans combo, it's very stylish. I wore a similar outfit on my blog recently and had the same dilemma about describing a white shirt as a "wardrobe must have", because it might not be for everyone. It's certainly a very useful and versatile item but I managed until recently without one - well apart from having to wear one at school! Emma xxx www.style-splash.com
    • Great points in your comment, Emma! I love it! So glad you found me and stopped by. Heading over to your blog as well.
  • Love it! This is such a simple and classic outfit! Thanks for linking up Beauty by Miss L Weekly Fashion Link Up!
