I Cannot Live By Bread Alone

I CANNOT LIVE

Bread is my food love! Could I live on it for every meal every day? Probably…at least for a while anyway. I love it. I love almost every type of bread known to man but I’m learning that bread does not always love me back. It really has a battle with my digestive system especially as I grow older. The older I get and the more I exercise the more and more I realize that my body really needs protein. Guess what? This post isn’t really about bread it’s more about protein drinks and what I’ve learned about the many that I’ve tried over the last few years.

How many protein drinks or meal replacements have I tried? That is such a great question and one I cannot even answer for myself because there are just too many to count and/or remember. But I want to highlight a few that I do remember and give some recommendations.

1. Most recently I’ve tried a plant-based protein from Target. It’s not very inexpensive and honestly not great at all. The taste isn’t bad but it’s not a drink that gives you anything other than a chocolate fix. I do kinda need one of those daily so that’s the only draw for me.

*I would have provided a link but it isn’t available online.*

2. I’ve tried Vega Protein with Greens which was complete and utter punishment. The flavor was awful!! I tried to drown it out with so many things and in so many ways but to no avail. Actually, it was just last week when a co-worker and I were laughing about how I finally gave up in defeat with this protein. It kicked my butt because I just could not choke in down in any form.

3. I did try another Vega product –  Vega Clean Protein. Am I a glutton for punishment or what? Well, no and this one didn’t punish me. It was actually great tasting and fairly filling. I only tried samples and didn’t actually purchase the entire container so I only have limited experience with it.

4. I recently tried 310 Nutrition because I saw an ad on Facebook for a trial kit for $9.00 + shipping. The kit contained three samples of plant-based protein {vanilla chai, salted caramel and chocolate}. These drinks are meal replacements but I didn’t find them very filling. I was hungry quickly. The kit had a lemonade drink which tasted like it had metals in it. There was a superfoods drink that didn’t taste bad but it looked like the color of baby poop. I haven’t changed diapers in about 28 years but I remember that color being very unappetizing. I haven’t tried the tea because I’m not a tea drinker. Products were okay but not my favorite.

5. So my favorite protein drink/meal replacement is still Shakeology. When I stepped away from coaching with Beachbody a short time ago, I also stopped my auto-ship of Shakeology. I now realize that was probably not my best decision. Here’s where my all or nothing decision-making steps in. I was totally overwhelmed with house buying and moving, etc. that I dropped out of things/life. I wasn’t really working out except for lifting weights and that’s when I replaced Shakeo with the Target plant based protein. Bad decision but I’m about to reverse my bad decisions and get back on the Shakeology train. It’s just that good. It really is filled with super foods and they help give energy and build muscle.

So it is bread or protein? Friends, for me it’s going to be more protein and more Shakeology! That’s how I roll best…

bread+proteinIf you read this post last week, you’ll be reminded that my decision-making has been off lately or should I say since about a year ago. Well, I’m working my way to get back on the good decision-making horse. Stay tuned I’ve got more to share in the near future.

Thanks for reading today, friends! I hope this post helps you if you are a looking for some input on proteins for your healthy lifestyle.

  • I love bread too! Man do I love bread! But I've been eating way less of it myself. I like the Trim Healthy Mama protein powder. It's an isolate and not concentrate. I also tried and liked Jay Robb's but my Whole Foods no longer carries it. Can't wait to hear what you have in store!
    • Of course, Italians have to love bread!! I haven't heard of those brands and I'm glad you shared them!
  • I've heard so many good things about shakeology! I don't think we have it here in Australia though, but I understand the benefits to a drink like this. Sounds like a good option for busy mums to have on the go too! Hope you are having a nice start to the week! Away From The Blue Blog
    • It is super great for moms on the go. I bet they ship to Australia. You should check it out and see.
      • looks like it's banned or at least restricted here, so no shakeology for me haha!
  • At least you're getting back on track and figuring out what works!
    • Finally! Feeling a little more settled and invigorated!
  • Living on Cloud Nine
I'm proud of you and shakeology is my favorite too. It definitely made me want to get back on the bandwagon. Thanks for the inspiration beautiful lady!
    • It's just so darn good...like a delicious treat that's really really good for you!
  • I need to remember to use my protein powder!
    • I especially love it in the summer! Cool and refreshing on hot days.
