I’ve Got a Vision!

Have you ever felt a little unsettled about something? Sometime in 2015 I began to feel unsettled with my blog. I felt as though I was getting lost. I often wondered about my real voice. Where had it gone? What message did I want to convey? Had I gotten lost? Did I have my own vision? I did have ideas but I hadn’t concentrated my mind and time on narrowing it down.

So…I went on a mission to create my vision for A Lovely Little Wardrobe. Again, it started with words just as I described in yesterday’s post. I chose words for my personal life which will reflect throughout the blog but I wanted a specific long-term vision for my blog.

I read and studied about how to create and write a vision statement. I thought about words and what message I wanted to convey with this blog.

I wrote a vision statement. I edited it. I edited it again…and again.

Finally, it came together. I ruminated on it and let it settle in.

Here it is.

My hope is that you’ll find inspiration here at A Lovely Little Wardrobe and then let it translate into your style and life. I truly hope I can give you input, ideas and support on your journey. My greatest hope is that you’ll be content in your life {and style} and who you are because I have fallen prey to the trap of comparison. My hope is that you will not follow that path. I’ve been there and it just doesn’t work. It’s a nasty trap, friends!

Set your own vision for yourself for this year and beyond. It will be a guide to you and regardless of what’s going on don’t fall into the trap of comparison. One smart man had a few great words about comparison.

Set your vision because….

I’m committing to be myself in 2016. Are you?

Tomorrow it’s a Mission Statement that’s up on the blog. I’m excited to share that with you as well!

Great advice! I think we all can fall prey to comparison. This has become easier for me with each year that passes. Happy new year!
    • I agree, Shelly, that it does get easier with each passing year. That nasty thing can still rear its head at times because we like in a world that just entices us toward it. So glad you stopped by and I appreciate your input.

I have enjoyed your blog for about a year. We are about the same age and you have inspired me to strive to look stylish! I can relate to your words about comparison. It is a struggle for me. As we begin a new year, I wanted to ask you about your diet - eating habits. You look so good! I know that you have said that you work out. Do you follow a specific eating plan? I know that you have talked about eating clean in the past. I need to shed about 10 pounds. At 50 it doesn't fall off as easily as it used to. Thanks and Happy New Year.
    • Happy New Year, Jill! First, let me say that I appreciate you following my blog. That is humbling to read and I'm ever so grateful that you tune in and follow along. You are correct that I do work out. In the past few years I have gone to the gym 4-5 times per week with my husband. We work with weights and also add in some cardio cross-fit type exercises. I typically set some goals for myself outside of just increasing weight and/or building muscle. One example I can give is this: I'll set a goal to do {X} number of push-ups per day or pull-ups. I had to start small in the beginning because I didn't have upper body strength but over months I gained that strength and then just added a higher number to my goal. Recently, I have been enjoying the 21 Day Fix from Beachbody {so much so I signed up to be a coach}. They focus on dialing in your nutrition coupled with 30 minute workouts. Honestly, I was already in shape and I got more toned! Cannot say enough about their program!! Yes, I try to eat clean and that is a focus of Beachbody too, but I was already convinced after I watched Fed Up and Food, Inc. Two great documentaries that reveal some nastiness about our food supply. Jill, I'm here to help and support you anyway I can! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. You can email me as well at [email protected]. I am participating in a Health Challenge with a fellow blogger for this month. I don't believe it's too late to join. Let me know if you're interested so I can point you in the right direction. Be blessed my friend!
  • Love this! I've been feeling a bit lost in lots of areas of my life lately. Perhaps I should carve out a chunk of time to think of a mission statement! What a great idea!
    • I think you would find it really beneficial for you and your blog. The vision statement is the long-term umbrella type of thing but the mission statement is more in the moment. Developing both of these and my words for the year have been really helpful to identify me and what is the message I want to convey. I'm feeling a lot less lost and confused! Just google and you'll find tons of info. This was probably the most helpful info I found on writing a mission statement for a blog. http://www.aroyaldaughter.com/2013/07/18/writing-a-mission-statement-for-your-blog/
  • I so love this! Your vision is spot on! In fact, the word "enough" is my "one word" for 2016!
    • Great minds think alike don't they? Yep, enough...just as we are! Which means we can be satisfied/content and that is a blessing!
  • You did a great job figuring out your vision - it's perfect!
    • Thank you, friend! Your input means a lot to me!
  • Saxon
"Be yourself because that is enough!" I love this, Carrie. I love your blog. I feel very peaceful after I come here.
    • Thank you, Saxon! You have no idea how that blesses me! So thankful to hear that. Happy New Year, friend and style sister!
